To introduce the 2018 nominees for the best new chef honor, we traveled across the country visiting their restaurants to get to know them a bit more with the help of their mentors. From winner Camille Cogswell of Zahav to Clare de Boer of King with her mentor/co-owner to Kevin Tien of Himitsu with culinary legend Jose Andres, the nominees credit their mentors with expanding their horizons, opening doors, and helping them find their way to the James Beard awards.
